api_fields_post_description => 'The Beltany Stone Circle was built around 1400-800 BC. Hidden in the rolling countryside near Raphoe, Beltany Stone Circle is one of Ireland’s most impressive and best-preserved prehistoric monuments. Dating back over 4,000 years to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, the site consists of more than 60 standing stones arranged in a wide circular formation, making it one of the largest stone circles in the country.

The monument is believed to have been an important ceremonial and ritual site, possibly linked to astronomical events such as the rising sun at certain times of the year. Its name is thought to derive from Bealtaine, the ancient Gaelic festival marking the beginning of summer, reflecting the site’s long-standing cultural and spiritual significance.

Today, visitors can wander freely among the ancient stones, taking in the peaceful atmosphere and sweeping views over the surrounding countryside. Whether you’re fascinated by archaeology, ancient Ireland or simply looking for a unique place to explore, Beltany Stone Circle offers a remarkable connection to Donegal’s distant past and remains one of the county’s hidden archaeological gems.'
