North Donegal is the kind of place that is made for explorers, road trippers, history lovers and anyone who’s just thought about getting away from it all to enjoy the unrushed, digitally detoxed feeling!Â
The real showstopper of the region is Fanad Head Lighthouse – this iconic and still operational structure, is one of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland and has been voted as one of the most beautiful in the world. It has been guarding the mouth of the Swilly since 1817 and welcomes guests to tour and to stay!
Fanad isn’t the only “wow” location in the region – think unspoiled sandy beaches at Ballymastocker and Portsalon or some of the quieter coves that are off the beaten track.
Rest those legs now for Mulroy Drive, a 35k route of outstanding natural beauty down the Fanad Peninsula’s western coast.  There are plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and hospitality to enjoy along the way too. You can also stop off and try walking and cycling routes, canoeing, swimming and fishing activities on Mulroy Drive.
